Youth On Mission and SCORE are now ONE!

Press Release:

Chattanooga, Tenn., August 1, 2012 — Chattanooga-based SCORE International and North Carolina-based Youth On Mission announce a merger of ministries, now operating as one organization, to further each ministry’s goal to fulfill the great commission, share God’s love, and offer participants a short-term missions experience both in the U.S. and abroad.
“What is really amazing is that in our nation’s economic decline, our ministry is booming,” says Ron Bishop, founder of SCORE International.

SCORE started in 1985 as a sports ministry, but soon expanded to a global missions ministry taking over 25,000 people on trips in the past five years alone. Similarly, Youth On Missions (YOM) equips and mobilizes short-term mission trips, having taken over 60,000 participants on trips since its inception in 1992. The partnership with YOM will enable SCORE to offer the mission trip experience to participants on domestic trips within the United States. In essence, YOM will be the domestic trip division of SCORE International.

“We are excited to work with Frank and Sharon Dees, Directors of YOM,” says Bishop, “as they have had great success in the domestic mission field with trips to Appalachia and inner cities throughout the United States. With this partnership, our goal to send 10,000 people on missions trips a year is within reach.”

The YOM model works with churches and ministries to reach local communities through sports camps, construction projects, backyard Bible clubs, drama, and vacation Bible schools. This model reflects that of SCORE which also offers international short-term trips such as dental and medical, construction, school senior trips, youth groups, and other church groups such as choir or senior adult groups. The partnership will be finalized in September 2012.
