DR Boys Basketball trip to USA

The Dominican Republic boy’s basketball team representing SCORE International experienced 8 days in the USA. For most of the 10 year old boys, it was “the trip of their life!” It was their first airplane ride and trip out of the country for almost all of them.

The team played 7 games and their record was 4 wins and 3 losses. Keep in mind all of their games were using 10’ goals instead of 8’ goals they play with in the DR. The games were played in Tampa (FL), Knoxville (TN), Nashville (TN), Chattanooga (TN), Warner Robins (GA), Dublin (GA), and Atlanta (GA).

At the games, there was a brief devotional and boys gave testimonies of their faith in Jesus Christ. At least 63 people accepted Christ as their Saviour at the games. Eight of our Dominican players accepted Christ on the trip.

“The boys played well and impressed a lot of Americans with their full-court pressure”, stated Ron Bishop, Founder of SCORE International. “They represented their families, the Dominican Republic, and SCORE International in a very positive way. I am extremely pleased and happy with the team.”

The team was treated to a day at Disney World (a cold day with temperatures in the 30’s) and a NBA game!

Giovanny and Carolina Valdez were chaperones for the team. Giovanny was the coach also. Mr. Bishop made all the arrangements, raised all the funds, handled all the finances, and did the administrative work for the trip.

Many donors were involved and SCORE gives thanks to everyone who helped make the ministry a “huge” success!
